U.S., Western Countries Seek Maintaining Jabhat al-Nusra Terrorist Organization for Geopolitical Goals: Lavrov

MOSCOW, (ST)-Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has stressed that the United States and some western countries are trying to prolong the crisis in Syria and to maintain Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization for achieving geopolitical goals.

In a press conference he held jointly with the Ivory Coast Foreign Minister Marcel Amon-Tanoh in Moscow on Wednesday, Lavrov said “Washington wants to keep Jabhat al-Nusra and seeks getting it out of the terrorist organizations list as to help it be a party in the talks on the crisis in Syria to serve the West’s geopolitical goals.

Over the past years of the war on Syria, the United States has funded and armed terrorist organizations, mainly the blacklisted “Jabhat al-Nusra”, under the name of “moderate opposition” and it used this terror group as a tool to implement its schemes, Lavrov said, according to the Syrian news Agency SANA.

He called on the US and western countries to stop creating baseless pretexts aiming at hindering the return of displaced Syrians to their homeland and to join efforts to facilitate the displaced people’s return.
