U.S. State Department Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott announced that the United States wants “to see peace and prosperity” in the Middle East, noting that this is one of the goals of President Donald Trump’s visit to the region.

Commenting on Trump’s announcement of lifting sanctions on Syria, Pigott said during a press conference published on the official U.S. State Department website: “Regarding the interim Syrian administration, we have engaged with them on steps related to achieving peace and prosperity.”
