Two afforestation campaigns in Quneitra and Idlib on the occasion of the 72nd Tree Day

Idlib and Quneitra, ST) – Two afforestation campaigns were carried out on Wednesday in Quneitra and Idlib governorates mainly in the Al-Ghaydah sites in the village of Nabaa Al-Fawwar in Quneitra and the town of Al-Tah in Idlib on the occasion of the 72nd Tree Day, under the slogan “Our forests are a trust, let us preserve them.”

The Governor of Quneitra, Moataz Abu Al-Nasr Jamran pointed to the importance of afforestation campaigns and their positive impact in preserving the environment and reducing the effects of climate change. He called for attention to and care for forest sites and trees, increasing natural and artificial forest areas and protecting them from excessive logging, and the necessity of cooperation with civil society In order to preserve the plant wealth.

The Director of Quneitra Agriculture Rifaat Moussa said in a statement to a SANA reporter that 1,000 forest plants were planted at the Al-Ghaydah site in the village of Nabe’ Al-Fawwar, on an area of 4,917 dunums, to contribute to preserving green spaces.

In Idlib, the Director of Agriculture Youssef Qassem said in a statement to SANA that the afforestation campaign includes planting 15 hectares of the area of forest sites and on both sides of the roads, of which 5 hectares are for patching and compensating forests damaged by fires and encroachments, and the rest is to raise the forest density. He added that the plants being planted are of two types, Pine and carob.

Qassem pointed out that the afforestation campaign, which began today with the planting of 1,500 hectares in the town of Al-Tah, will continue during the coming days, on both sides of the Damascus-Aleppo International Highway in the area of lands located in Idlib countryside.

The branches of the Revolutionary Youth Union, the National Union of Syrian Students, and the Baath Vanguards Organization participated in this campaign.
