Turkish Transport Minister: We will Continue to Strengthen Syria’s Aviation Infrastructure

Announcing that a Turkish technical team has started its work to rehabilitate and develop Damascus International Airport, Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu confirmed that his country will continue its cooperation “to strengthen the aviation infrastructure in the friendly and brotherly country of Syria.”

Anadolu quoted Uraloglu as saying in a statement that 6 trucks with 113 equipment and devices were dispatched, which will ensure the safety of flights at Damascus airport and Syrian airspace. He pointed out that the 25-person technical team is installing the devices at Damascus airport and training staff to use them to increase the airport’s operational efficiency.

The team included experts in air navigation, aviation electronics, security, rescue and firefighting electronics at airports.

According to the statement, the Turkish team recorded all missing items at the airport, noting that all technical work is carried out in cooperation with the Syrian side.

Some air navigation auxiliaries that were destroyed during the war or had been disrupted for years were repaired, and two new transmitter and receiver systems were installed in the airport’s observation tower.

According to Minister Uraloglu, 10 x-ray machines and 4 explosive detectors, and 10 gate devices for metal detectors, and also 8 other devices for metal detection, have been sent.

He pointed out that the installation of 6 x-ray machines and 5 detector gates has been completed so far, and that work is underway to install the rest of the security equipment in cooperation with Syrian officials.
