Turkish Regime Withdraws Troops from Areas outside Iraq’s Mosul

BAGHDAD, (ST) – The Turkish regime has pulled out its forces and military equipments from areas outside the Iraqi city of Mosul towards Turkey days after Iraq demanded that Turkish troops immediately withdraw from the Iraqi territory.

The Iraqi news agency on Monday cited the Governor of the Iraqi Ninava province as saying that “the Turkish troops today morning withdrew from Zalkan camp in Bashiqa town and arrived to Dahouk area”.  He pointed out that only some Turkish experts (about 20-50) stayed in the camp in accordance with an agreement with the Iraqi government.

Two weeks ago, the forces of Erdogna’s regime entered the Iraqi province of Ninawa, allegedly to train Iraqi groups, without a request or authorization from the Iraqi government which considered the deployment as a serious violation of Iraqi sovereignty and urged Turkey to immediately withdraw its forces from Iraq.

The Iraqi government submitted a formal complaint against Turkey to the UN Security Council because of Turkey’s violation of UN charter and principles which call for respecting countries’ sovereignty.
