Turkish Regime Should Immediately Withdraw its Forces from Syria: Al-Mikdad

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faysal al-Mikdad on Saturday renewed the call for immediate withdrawal of the Turkish regime’s forces from the Syrian territories.

In a statement to al-Mayadeen TV, al-Mikdad held the Turkish regime responsible for all the tension in the region, stressing that the situation won’t improve as long as Turkey occupies Syrian lands.

Al-Mikdad also blamed the Turkish regime for the deterioration in the Syrian-Turkish relations and for the undermining of the achievements realized in Syria before the war on the country. “This regime has become part and parcel of the terrorist war on Syria for sheltering the terrorists and for providing arms and training to terrorist groups as to destroy Syria and kill the Syrians,” al-Mikdad said.

On August 24, 2016, the Turkish army forces entered northern Syrian areas allegedly to fight Deash terrorist organization. Syria stressed that the Turkish aggression was a blatant violation of the Syrian sovereignty, affirming that fighting terrorism can’t be achieved by expelling Daesh and replacing it with other terrorist groups directly backed by Turkey.
