Turkish regime issues arrest warrants for 67 people

Istanbul, (ST) – The Turkish regime authorities have issued arrest warrants for 67 people as part of the crackdown launched by Recep Tayyip Erdogan since 2016 in an attempt to liquidate his political and military opponents under the pretext of being involved in the alleged coup attempt against him.

The Turkish Zaman Newspaper reported that the Public Prosecutor in Ankara issued arrest decisions against 42 students of the Turkish Land Forces War School, who were previously dismissed under the pretext of the ongoing investigations into the coup attempt.

The General Prosecutor’s Office in Gaziantep also issued arrest warrants for 25 police officers who were previously dismissed from work under the pretext of being associated with the “service” movement of the preacher Fethullah Gulen.

The Turkish regime dismissed thousands of military cadets and issued sentences to 259 of them with life imprisonment under the pretext of being involved in the coup attempt in July 2016, while this regime admitted last June that it dismissed 15,583 soldiers under the pretext of being associated with the “service” movement.

Since the attempted coup, the Erdogan regime has launched a crackdown that has included all public sectors and has resulted in the arrest of about 80,000 people and the expulsion or arrest of about 150,000 government employees, members of the army, police and others from work, and dozens of Turkish and foreign journalists have been arrested.

In addition, a number of lawyers in Belgium began a hunger strike in solidarity with their fellow Turkish lawyers, who have been on hunger strike for 200 days, due to the Turkish regime’s continued imprisonment and conviction on terrorism charges since 2018.

According to the Stockholm Freedom Center, 10 Belgian lawyers participated in the strike to protest against the Turkish regime’s repressive practices against Turkish lawyers.

Earlier, the Belgian capital, Brussels, witnessed protests organized by dozens of Belgian lawyers in front of the embassy of the Turkish regime to protest against the latter’s practices against lawyers.
