Turkish regime continues the policy of Turkification in the areas it occupies

Damascus, (ST) – The Turkish regime continued its practices and crimes against the Syrians aimed at turkifying the areas it occupies from the Syrian lands. The local sources in Idlib revealed the intention of the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries is to create a so-called “General Secretariat of the Civil Registry” in the governorate that reports directly to the occupation authorities. They form local councils in the cities, towns and villages that are still under the control of their terrorist mercenaries.

In the past months, the Turkish regime’s attempts to impose Turkification as a fait accompli have escalated in the areas it occupies with its terrorist mercenaries to include wider areas and different areas.  Local sources revealed that the occupation forces asked their terrorist mercenaries to get the personal and family cards issued by the concerned authorities in the Syrian Arab Republic from citizens and replace them Turkish cards.

These unacceptable practices of the Turkish regime simulate the crimes of the Israeli occupation authorities against our people in the occupied Syrian Golan in a repeated attempt to separate the Syrian identity from the occupied areas by changing the names of the streets, schools and major landmarks in the occupied cities and towns.

Media reports and civil sources indicated that the Turkish occupation forces, in cooperation with their terrorist mercenaries, were not satisfied with changing the names of villages, cities and major landmarks in them, such as naming with the name “Ataturk” on the main square in the city of Afrin, north of Aleppo, but rather imposing educational curricula in a number of schools in the towns of the countryside of Aleppo, which it occupies. Turkish occupation also cancelled the Syrian curricula approved by the Ministry of Education, in addition to imposing the Turkish language in these schools.

The sources pointed out that the terrorist organizations affiliated with the Turkish regime began, during the past few days, a new phase of implementing the Turkification scheme in Idlib and its surroundings by issuing new forged ownership documents to seize the people’s properties of lands, homes and others in a scenario similar to what the Turkish occupation authorities and their terrorist groups are doing inRas Al-Ain and Afrin in the countryside of Al-Hasakah and Aleppo.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates renewed its call on the international community, especially the United Nations and its organs, to take the appropriate stance towards the practices of the Turkish regime, which constitute a flagrant violation of international law. The Ministry also called on the governments of the aggression countries to abandon their subversive policies aimed at impeding the return of security and stability to Syria.
