Turkish regime authorities arrest 15 local officials in Mardin

The Turkish regime authorities arrested today 15 people as part of a campaign of arrests that targeted a number of officials allegedly involved in incidents of corruption in Mardin in southeast Turkey. The arrest comes as part of the wide reprisal campaign launched by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in various parts of the country with the aim of getting rid of all opponents of his policies.

“Turkish security forces arrested 15 high-ranking officials in Mardin on charges of corruption and bribery,” the Turkish newspaper Zaman quoted security sources as saying.

The Public Prosecution Office in Mardin, affiliated with the Turkish regime, started a campaign to investigate officials after the dismissal of former local official Mustafa Yaman.

The Ministry of the Interior of the Turkish regime removed last year Ahmed Turk from the position of mayor of Mardin, a position that he was elected for, in addition to the mayors of Wan and Diyarbakir. The ministry began last August a plan to isolate the mayors of the three municipalities, and it continues until today.

During the years following the coup attempt in July 2016, the authorities of the Turkish regime imprisoned thousands of people and made decisions to dismiss or suspend work of thousands of workers in the government, the army, the judiciary, education, and other institutions. After four years, the number of people who were thrown by the authorities of the Turkish regime in prisons exceeded 91 thousand.
