Turkish infringements threaten Roman bridge and farmlands in Hasaka countryside

Hasaka – Local sources at al-Malikiye city affirmed that heavy machinery belonging to the Turkish regime have bulldozed large areas of land in a methodical infringement that seeks to alter the course of the Tigris River in Ein Diwar village 190 km northeast of Hasaka city.

The sources said that Turkish heavy equipment and engineering vehicles entered Syrian territory in November and started a few days ago to carry out acts of vandalism and bulldozing in the riverbed of the Tigris in an attempt to alter its natural course, which poses a threat to the entire village of Ein Diwar, SANA reported.

The sources explained that altering the river’s course will leave more than a thousand hectares of farmlands submerged under water, in addition to threatening a number of archeological sites including the Roman bridge in the village, which dates back to 1164 AD and is one of the most important landmarks in the province.
