Turkish aggression on Syria’s northeastern region portends humanitarian disaster, economic crisis

DAMASCUS, (ST)-  The Syrian and Russian Coordination committees on the return of refugees have warned that the Turkish aggression on the northeastern part of Syria would cause a humanitarian disaster and an economic crisis there, stressing that in order to restore normal situation in this area the Syrian state must reestablish its control on it and on the entire Syrian territories.

In a joint statement, the committees said that situation in the north of Syria raises concern because of the ongoing Turkish aggression on Syrian territories which have displaced some 165 thousand civilians and exposed the population to a humanitarian catastrophe and an economic crisis.

The committees expressed grave concern over the danger of losing control on prisons that contain Daesh terrorists, calling for sparing no effort to prevent the terrorists’ release from these prisons.

The statement pointed out that hundreds of thousands of displaced Syrians have returned  to their original places of residence thanks to the Syrian government’s efforts and the support of the Russian side. It affirmed that the Syrian government has been keen on creating the suitable circumstances for a voluntary safe return of refugees to their areas, which have been liberated from terrorism, and on restoring stability and security countrywide.

The statement recalled the dangerous situation in Syria’s al-Tanf area where US-backed terrorists keep preventing the displaced Syrians in al-Rukban camp from returning home.
