Fidan: Turkey stresses the need to achieve stability in Syria…President Erdogan intends to visit Syria soon
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan intends to visit Syria soon.
He added that officials are continuing to work to determine a suitable date for such a visit, according to Anadolu Agency.
In a statement today during a press conference held as part of the closing ceremony of the Antalya Diplomatic Forum, which witnessed broad participation from officials and diplomats from various countries, Fidan pointed out that “Israeli attacks on Syria undermine its stability and that full respect for Syria’s territorial sovereignty is essential.”
The Turkish Minister emphasized that Turkey’s stance on Syria is clear, focusing on the need to achieve stability there.
He added, “We are having discussions with Russia, the United States, and Jordan to protect Syrian airspace and continue with negotiations.”
The Turkish Chargé d’Affaires in Syria, Burhan Koroglu, said in his speech during the Antalya Diplomatic Forum on Friday that Erdogan may soon conduct his visit to Syria.
This visit will be the first by a Turkish president to Syria since the visit of former Turkish President Abdullah Gül to Damascus in 2009.
The two presidents, al-Sharaa and Erdogan, met last Friday at the Antalya Diplomatic Forum, and in a presidential statement, Erdogan said that Turkey will continue its diplomatic efforts to lift the international sanctions imposed on Syria.
