Turkey’ Remarks on Providing Air Cover to Terrorists an Aggression on Syria – Al-Mikdad

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Providing support for the terrorist organizations in Syria by any country is an aggression on the Syrian state, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faysal al-Mikdad has said in response to remarks made by the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu on providing air cover to terrorists in Syria.

In a statement to the Beirut-based “Al-Mayadeen” Channel yesterday, a-Mikdad said “the remarks made by the Foreign Minister of Erdogan’s regime again uncover the Turkish intention to provide direct support for the terrorist organizations in Syria by funding and arming them.”

He added that Cavusoglu’s anti-Syria statements indicate the Turkish intention to prolong the conflict and cause more killing of innocent people and more destruction in Syria.

According to al-Mikdad, the Turkish, Qatari and Saudi support for the terrorists of al-Nousra Front and other extremist groups was evident in their attacks on Idleb and Jisr As-Shughour.

The Syrian Arab Army will retaliate to all forms of terrorist aggression, al-Mikdad stressed, urging the international community and the Security Council to shoulder their responsibilities and stop the support which is given to the terrorist organizations and which violates related UNSC resolutions.

Earlier, the Turkish Foreign Minister announced that there was a principal agreement between his country and the United States over providing air protection for the terrorists operating inside Syria under the pretext of supporting what they call “moderate opposition” which is receiving American-Turkish training in Turkey.
