Turkey Plans to Export Natural Gas to Syria to Boost Electricity Production

The Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, announced plans to export 6 million cubic meters of natural gas per day to Syria.

He stated that this planned export, which is expected to total around 2 billion cubic meters annually, will be used to generate electricity within Syria. Bayraktar was quoted by the Anatolia News Agency during an interview with CNN Turk.
The minister also mentioned that Syrian authorities began to complete the necessary infrastructure for the natural gas pipeline. The gas will be transported from the Turkish province of Kilis to the city of Aleppo in Syria, where it will be utilized in the local power plant.
Bayraktar revealed that efforts have commenced to provide Syria with electricity alongside the natural gas supply. Currently, Aleppo is receiving approximately 200 megawatts of electricity from Turkey.
Bayraktar emphasized that helping to restore normal life in Syria is one of Turkey’s top priorities.
