Turkey Mulling Sending Troops to Syria

Reports coming out of Turkey suggest that Ankara is preparing for a military intervention in neighboring Syria.

Several Turkish media outlets reported that the Ankara government is gearing up for a ground incursion into Syria.

They said that the government has ordered the army to deploy forces to border areas in a bid to prevent significant gains by Kurdish forces fighting against ISIL terrorists.

According to the newspapers, the Turkish government has ordered the military to increase support for Syrian terrorists in border regions. The Turkish military has, however, reportedly advised the government to explore all diplomatic avenues before launching any incursion.

The reports also said that up to 18,000 ground forces, air support and artillery would reportedly cross the border into Syria on a stretch of land spanning from the Syrian city of Kobani in the east to the town of Mare.

The strip of land is currently a battleground between Kurdish fighters and ISIL terrorists.

The Turkish government has neither confirmed nor denied the reports.

The reports come two days after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday alleged Syrian Kurds of trying to establish a state in the crisis in Syria, saying Ankara will leave no stone unturned to prevent such an establishment near its borders.

The foreign-backed tension in Syria has been further aggravated by the activities of ISIL Takfiri terrorists who carry out crimes against different religious and other groups.
