Turkey, Egypt affirm support for Syria’s unity, sovereignty

Turkey and Egypt have reiterated their support for Syria’s unity and sovereignty, and the need to achieve stability and security in the country.

Anadolu Agency quoted Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdel Ati as saying in a joint statement following a meeting between the two sides in the Turkish capital Ankara: “Turkey and Egypt reaffirm their support for Syria’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, and stress the need to ensure that Syrian territory is not used to threaten any country.”

The statement pointed to the importance of launching a comprehensive political process that achieves the interests of the Syrian people, while stressing the need for the voluntary and dignified return of Syrian refugees to their homeland.

The statement also noted the importance of combating terrorism and ensuring the continuation of good neighborly relations between the countries of the region.
