Tunisian PM Stresses His Country Backs Efforts Aiming to Attain Political Settlement in Syria

NEW YORK, (ST)- Tunisian Prime Minister Habib Essid has stressed that his country backs the international efforts being exerted to attain a consensual political settlement in Syria as to avoid the danger of division and disintegration in the country.

In his speech at the UN General Assembly 70th Session in New York, Essid said “Tunisia urges all parties to intensify their efforts as to attain a political solution to the crisis in Syria based on dialogue.”

 “The Syrian tragedy has been continuous for years and it keeps worsening the suffering of the Syrian people,” Essid said, pointing out that this issue “necessitates an immediate action by the international community as to mobilize and coordinate efforts aiming to end violence and chaos and to save lives.”

Talking about terrorism in his country, Essid stressed “Tunisia won’t allow terrorism to achieve its goals and it is fighting it according to an all-out plan covering the military, security, political, economic, cultural and social aspects.
