Washington ( ST): The former General Inspector of the US Department of State Steve Lenik said that President Donald Trump sacked him because he had thrown doubts about the allegations that justify arms sale to the Saudi regime.
Lenik was fired last May 15 to become the fourth US official to be dismissed by Trump during the past few months.
Some Congressmen were quoted by Reuters as saying that Lenik was sacked suddenly last month, because he was investigating into the justifications put for selling weapons to Saudi Arabia.
Head of the Foreign Relations Committee at the US House of Representatives said in a statement that Lenik said during a meeting with Congressmen that he was also investigating into US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and his wife’s misuse of the funds of the State Department.
