In an article written by British journalist Jonathan Freedland and published by the UK’s the “Guardian” newspaper on Friday, US President Donald Trump was held responsible for the repercussions of the coronavirus outbreak in the United States.
The article stated that the Americans are paying the price for Trump’s lack of foresight and narcissism that led the number of covid-19 infected cases to exceed 100,000, thereby placing America at the top of the global league table for coronavirus infections, edging ahead of China.
The Guardian’s article added that the Americans are facing one of the biggest challenges in their history, noting Trump’s lack of basic human empathy and his tendency to be unmoved by others’ loss.
The newspaper added within the article that “an imbecile at the head of the US government would always be a problem. But an imbecile so narcissistic that he elevates his own stunted knowledge above the judgment of medicine and science is a calamity.”
The article made it clear that Trump has failed to heed the warnings of a pandemic preparedness exercise that identified glaring gaps as recently as last October, but now he demands steadfastness in a war against an “invisible enemy”.
