Trump’s moves harmful to regional security

TEHRAN– Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said Tue. that US President Donald Trump’s measures are harmful for the security of the region, adding that Washington’s hostile behavior will not remain unanswered.

The Iranian Parliament speaker made the remark in a meeting with Norwegian ambassador to Tehran, Lars Nordrum, Mehr News reported.

During the meeting, Larijani noted the European Union’s call on Iran to refrain from taking the same approach as US regarding the nuclear deal and give them another opportunity to continue the trend of cooperation; “therefore, it was decided to hold some negotiations with the EU in order to coordinate cooperation,” he added.

There are countries that are interested in working with Iran through alternative channels, Larijani said, adding that Iran and US are at odds with one another; “we need to take some steps forward so that Americans would realize that they cannot go ahead with their agenda this way,” he added.

The Norwegian ambassador, for his part, noted his country’s efforts to keep Iran in the nuclear deal, adding “Norwegian SMEs are keen on doing business with Iran. Of course, Norway seeks to expand bilateral ties with Iran beyond the framework of the JCPOA.”

He then noted the interest of Norwegian companies in investing in renewable energy projects in Iran, saying that US sanctions have less impact on this field of cooperation.

Since Norway is not a EU member state, the country is currently waiting for the Union to decide on its plan for cooperation with Iran, he said, adding that Norway would then model its own cooperation with Iran based on EU’s plan.
