Transport Minister discusses with a Russian delegation activating cooperation in the field of railways

Damascus (ST): The Minister of Transport, Eng. Zuhair Khuzaym, discussed with a Russian delegation that includes a number of directors and experts of the Russian State Railways Company for Transport and Technology, ways to activate cooperation between the two countries in the field of railways.

 Talks also dealt with aspects of cooperation in the field of developing a plan for the priorities required in railways, including vehicles of various uses, maintenance and repair supplies, lines and rehabilitation equipment, modernizing the railway system, exchanging experiences, and the possibility of investing this in restarting railways in Syria, within the framework of the work of the Syrian Russian Committee.

At the beginning of the meeting, Minister Khuzaym had given a presentation on the reality of the railway sector in Syria, the difficulties it faces, and the size of the systematic targeting, which resulted in 80 percent of the network being out of service due to the terrorist war and thefts practiced by the “SDF militia” and the Turkish regime and their tools, referring to the self-efforts made by the ministry to restore life to the sector and repair the lines that secure the transportation of citizens’ needs and link with production and industry centers in addition to transporting passengers in a number of Syrian governorates.
