Traffic accidents drop by 37.7 percent during period of curfew imposed due to coronavirus

Damascus – Traffic accidents have decreased by 37.7 % during the period of application of the curfew due to the Coronavirus pandemic compared to the same period last year.

The number of accidents during the month of April 2020 reached 427 accidents which resulted in the death of 18 people and the injury of 193 others, while the total number of accidents recorded for the month of April last year reached 686 accidents which caused 53 deaths and 396 injuries, according to the statistics of the Interior Ministry.

The Director of the Traffic Department at the Ministry of Interior, Major General Mamoun al-Amouri said that the Ministry is making great efforts to reduce traffic accidents in all circumstances by improving the services provided by the traffic facility.

 Al-Amouri underlined the importance of the role played by traffic officers in implementing the curfew on vehicles which was approved by the governmental team on Coronavirus.
