Tokayev: Kazakhstan was attacked by trained and armed foreign terrorists

Nur-Sultan (ST): Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev confirmed today that his country was attacked by trained and armed foreign terrorists, describing as “stupid” calls from abroad to hold talks for a “peaceful solution to the events that Kazakhstan is facing.”

“There can be no talks with murderous criminals, gang members, domestic and foreign terrorists,” Tokayev said in a televised address to citizens, stressing that secret preparations for terrorist acts and sleeper cells of militants showed the existence of an accurate plan to attack military, administrative and social targets in the country.

Tokayev pointed out that in addition to the militants, there were experts trained to carry out ideological sabotage, stressing that the authorities would not hold any talks with criminals, pointing out that lessons should be drawn from this tragedy.

He added, “There is so-called free media and foreign personalities far from the root interests of our people playing an inciting role in the riots in Kazakhstan,” noting that in May 2020, a law was passed on peaceful assemblies of citizens, and it did not require permission to take place, but rather inform the authorities about it. But some of those who call themselves “activists and human rights defenders” put themselves above the law and carry out irresponsible actions that distract the attention of the police and security forces who are subjected to humiliation and violence from them.
