“ Time for Nature” Campaign in Lattakia on World Environment Day

“ We can’t be healthy in an unhealthy environment. It is in our own best interest to contribute intently and effectively to preserve the natural world as much as we can. It is everyone’s responsibility to take care of the environment to make this planet a wonderful place to live on ” Miss Rawan Al-Issa Head of the Environment club at the Peacemakers civil Society association in Lattakia province said in an interview with the Syriatimes e-newspaper.

Every year the world celebrates  World Environment Day  on the 5th  of June – a day  dedicated to focusing efforts of the governments, businesses and citizens on pressing environmental issues.

The environment club at the Peace Makers civil society association has launched a campaign  on social media  under the world slogan  “ Time for nature” .

The campaign came within the framework of the World Environment Day 2020 “ Time For Nature “  global campaign  to raise awareness of worldwide environmental issues of all kinds.

The global campaign highlights how nature delivers vital services to humanity and the urgent need to halt its destruction.

Shedding light on the campaign Miss Al-Issa the supervisor of the campaign said “ World Environment Day is the most renowned day for environmental action. It offers a global platform for inspiring positive change”.

“ Our participation in this global event is based on our commitment as active members in our society and to consolidate the culture of preserving the environment and developing societies  which are in need of  a healthy and clean environment surrounding us” she expressed.

The supervisor  pointed out that the one-week campaign focuses on  raising awareness about biodiversity and the importance of nature as there are numerous ways we  can help with restoring nature ,  reversing the loss of biodiversity by re-imagining our relationship with nature and sustaining a healthy planet.

Miss Al-Issa underlined that the campaign witnessed  wide and interactive participation via internet.   As Syria is famous for its attractive nature , a lot of photos were released about the most unique and unknown natural  sites  in a number of Syrian provinces, especially in Lattakia .

 “ the photos affirmed that despite the destruction and damaged caused by ISISI  terrorists , Syria still enjoys fascinating nature” she underlined. 

She made it clear that the emergence of COVID-19 has underscored the fact that when we destroy biodiversity , we destroy the system that supports human life, stressing COVID -19 has been a wake-up call on all fronts for all humanity.

Head of the environment club said that the club has carried out a number of environmental activities for all ages  including workshops ,  afforestation campaigns and symposiums to spread the culture of preserving the environment .

She pointed out that the club seeks to spread  the culture of recycling as recycling is important if we want to preserve this planet for our future generations.
