Thousands to Protest in London, Edinburgh Today to Protest at Military Action against Syria

TEHRAN – The Stop the War Coalition, originating from the UK, has announced that they will protest in London today to show their outrage at the western plans for military action in Syria, according to FNA.

Additionally, there will be an Edinburgh Stop the War demonstration. This is to take place today on the East side of Princes Street in the capital of Scotland at 5:30 pm local time. Campaigners said that demonstrations across the British Isles are beginning to be organized.

The Coalition group has made their message clear. “Britain, France and the US are committing to another disastrous military intervention. Apart from the inevitable casualties, any attack on Syria can only inflame an already disastrous civil war and would risk pulling in regional powers further.”

“Most people in this country have learnt from the disasters of Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya.” A poll from Sunday stated that just nine percent of the British public would be in favor of troops being shipped off to Syria, while 16 percent would support giving more arms to the area.

“Our politicians, however, have learnt nothing. We need the maximum level of protest to stop them plunging us in to yet another catastrophic war.” The group also claims there will be another demonstration which will be held over the weekend.
