Thousands of protesters besiege the Amerian Embassy in Iraq, burning one of its gates

Baghdad, (ST) – Iraqi demonstrators gathered in front of the American embassy in Baghdad today condemning the American aggression against the headquarters of the Popular Mobilization Forces in the Anbar province of Iraq, calling for the embassy to be closed and  for the American ambassador to be expelled from Iraq.

Thousands of demonstrators from the funerals of the Popular Mobilization Forces, stormed the gate of the Green Zone, surrounded the American embassy, burned one of its gates, and wrote on its walls “closed by order of the people” and then proceeded to build a sit-in tent in front of the building.
The demonstrators chanted slogans denouncing the American arrogance and the Zionist aggression, demanding the expulsion of the American ambassador and the embassy staff from Iraq.
“The protesting mourners want to deliver a message to the world exposing the aggressive practices of Washington and its contempt for the sovereignty of Iraq and the blood of its strong young sons who defeated the terrorist gangs of ISIS,” Jabbar al-Maamouri, head of the Iraqi Association of Muslim Scholars, told SANA in Baghdad.
Salam al-Shammari, an Iraqi parliamentarian said that “It is time for the Iraqis to decide their fate without foreign interference.” The most important step required to be accomplished in the coming weeks is the Iraqi parliament’s vote to cancel the ill-fated security agreement with the United States of America.
The Popular Mobilization Forces in Iraq announced the day before yesterday that their sites were bombed by American planes marching west of Al-Anbar Governorate, which resulted in martyrs and injuries among members of the 45th and 46th Brigade.
