Thousands of people on Sunday demonstrated in the Spanish capital, Madrid, in solidarity with the Palestinian people and to denounce the genocide committed by the Zionist entity against them in Gaza Strip.
The demonstrations took place in more than 100 areas at the invitation of “Solidarity Network Against the Occupation of Palestine” to demand the Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez to lead a campaign for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza Strip, and for an end to all types of deals for buying and selling weapons and military technology with “Israel”.
The participants called on the Spanish government to support the lawsuit filed by South Africa in the International Court of Justice against “Israel”, sever relations with it, put an end to persecution, and stop criminalizing solidarity with Palestine.
The demonstrators criticized Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albarez against the backdrop of his statements that weapons deals to “Israel” had stopped on October 7, 2023, while in fact the information indicated that licenses were granted allowing the export of Spanish weapons to the Israeli entity.
The demonstrators stressed the need to recognize the right of the Palestinian people to resist occupation, ethnic cleansing, apartheid, colonialism and settlement, calling on Spanish society to support the boycott, divestment and sanctions campaign to end the occupation.
Participants in the demonstration raised Palestinian flags and chanted slogans such as “Free Palestine from the river to the sea”, “Israel is a criminal and Europe sponsors it”, “Freedom for Palestine”, “Stop genocide in Palestine”, and “Long live the resistance of the Palestinian people”.
