The World Council of Churches called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the opening of humanitarian passages.

Palestinian Wafa News Agency quoted the Council’s Executive Committee meeting in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, as saying in a statement: “We yearn for peace and justice, and for an end to the cycle of violence and suffering that seems endless,We also warn of the consequences of the horrific, long-term, trans-generational trauma that afflicts children, and we stress the need to respect human dignity, human rights, and the principles of international humanitarian law.”

The committee called for ensuring the unhindered distribution and delivery of vital humanitarian aid, including water, food, medical supplies and fuel, as well as the restoration of electricity and internet services to Gaza.
