The US has no political will to fight terrorism

A review of US government actions and words clearly proves the country has not taken and will not take any single step to save people from the clutches of terrorists in Syria and the region.

The US didn’t meet its obligations towards the agreement with Russia on Syria, because Washington has not separated between the so-called “moderate opposition” and the terrorists. On the contrary, Russia is the only side which behaves with big responsibility to make the cessation of hostilities agreement successful. The Americans have no desire to see the Syrian army liberates the cities from the terrorists, and whenever a region is liberated, they utter hostile statements against Syria and the Syrian army.

Moreover, the US has ordered its Arab and regional tools to offer logistic and financial support to takfiri terrorists operating in Syria. The Qatari and Saudi regimes fund terrorism and they don’t want the war in Syria to end. Turkey launches provocative attacks on the north of Syria and Saudi Arabia and Qatar finance these attacks because they simply don’t want the war in Syria to come to an end.

The US deliberate destruction of two bridges came within a series of attacks and after the US blatant aggression which led to killing and injuring tens of Syrian army’s personnel in Deir Ezzor on September 17.The only beneficiary of these criminal and aggressive acts is the extremist terrorist organizations, mainly ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra, which seek to spread chaos and destruction in Syria. The developments proved a lack of seriousness on the part of the United States and its allies in confronting those organizations.

The US decision to suspend bilateral cooperation with Russia on Syria show the absence of Washington’s political will in the field of fighting terrorism and affirms its continued endeavors to protect all terrorists affiliated to Jabhat al-Nusra.

The United States’ evasion of the agreement which it had reached with Russia last September is regrettable. This agreement which stipulates that the United States must persuade the opposition groups it supports and labels as “moderate” to separate themselves from Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization. The American administration’s hesitation to separate al-Nusra from the other terrorist organizations proves that the US aims at protecting all terrorists linked to al-Nusra and other armed terrorist organizations, as it misleads the world public opinion by calling those organizations “moderate.”

The only way to guarantee fighting terrorism is by establishing an efficient international coalition within the framework of international legitimacy with the participation of all concerned countries, on top of which is the Syrian state.

The Russian role in fighting terrorism came upon the request of the Syrian government and adheres to international law. But the practices of the so-called “international coalition” led by the United States prove its incompetence, dishonesty, and lack of seriousness in fighting terrorism in Syria and Iraq. That was evident three weeks ago, when the aircrafts of this coalition targeted sites of the Syrian Arab army at Tharda Mountain in Deir Ezzor, claiming the lives of tens of officers and soldiers who were fighting ISIS at that area, and allowing ISIS terrorists to establish temporary control over those sites.

The coalition aircrafts are still carrying out airstrikes in this area but do not target the ISIS and terrorists; rather they target the infrastructure and bridges which the civilians are using to move between the two banks of the Euphrates River in the city of Deir Ezzor.

The terrorist acts committed against Syria prove that the acts and resolutions issued by the UN Security Council and General Assembly, including the UN world strategy on fighting terrorism, have been ignored several times under various pretexts, but this is mainly because of the absence of the political will by some countries or the direct or indirect involvement of the governments of certain states in supporting terrorism and instigating violence and criminal terrorist acts.

The underhanded terrorist war hatched against Syria for six years is the fiercest and most tragic example of the double standards and the dangerous policies adopted by some member states at the Security Council.

The war on terrorism should be a joint international effort in accordance with international law and in cooperation with the countries concerned. However, this international effort will not be effective as long as some countries are using terrorism as a tool to implement foreign policies that threaten the international peace and security.

The attempt by some of the Security Council’s member states to justify any interference or military action in Syria under the pretext of fighting ISIS based on provision no. 51 of the UN Charter should be rejected, as this interference would be done without any coordination with the Syrian government and it would seek to undermine Syria’s sovereignty.
