The United States on the Afghan track

The “Islamic State”, formerly known as the “Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Sham)” has formally declared an Islamic caliphate reaching from Iraq’s Diyala province till the Syrian city of Aleppo.

It is not a secret that this group of terrorist and deviated religious zealots is a product and result of American policies in the region in combination with the criminal activities of certain Arab counties, mostly Saudi Arabia and Qatar, and the pseudo revival of the Ottoman dream of Erdogan in Turkey.

For the United States two things have absolute priority. Breaking up the region according to the Greater Middle East Project and neutralising Iran.

The Greater Middle East Project is the doctrine orchestrated by the United States during the George W. Bush administration to break up the region as to get full political control over the region, more specifically its oil and gas resources. This doctrine was welcomed with full support by Israel who participated in its creation as it would weaken the region militarily.

The first phase started with the removal of the Saddam Hussein regime in Iraq who had always been an faithful ally of the West and fought 8 years (1980 – 1988) against Iran and its Islamic revolution loyal and subordinate to its Western masters. But when after eight years of war this coalition couldn’t break the moral, steadfastness and sacrifices of the Iranian nation, it’s people and the power of the Islamic Revolution they gave up and instead started a secret war of supporting terrorism in the Islamic Republic as a second attempt to weaken and break up the new Iran. When Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait and spiralled out of control it was decided to remove him and replace him by an new U.S. friendly puppet regime. What the U.S. administration didn’t foresee was that the will of the Iraqi people would be stronger than expected and that an independent government democratically chosen by the Iraqi people under the premiership of Nouri al Maliki would emerge and that the Iraqi people and government would continue to build friendly and brotherly relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran and its people.

For the United States neutralising Iran and destroying its being would stay a top priority and obsession since the creation of the Islamic Republic until now. As the U.S. realises that Iran built up, despite all the sanctions or even thanks to the sanctions that forced Iran to be self sufficient, a formidable military strength they also realise in the same time that it would be much too risky to attack Iran directly. The new tactical plan of the U.S. was to destroy Iran’s first and foremost ally Syria and by doing so isolating the Hezbollah movement in Lebanon. Hezbollah who defeated Israel in the 1996 war to the big surprise of the U.S., its Western allies and last but not least Israel itself. After the easy removal of  Muammar Khadafi in Libya in 2011, the U.S. became overconfident that they could do the same in Syria and remove the administration of President al Assad within months. But once again the U.S. miscalculated over the strength and loyalty of the Syrian Arab Army, the steadfastness of the Syrian people and the popularity of President al Assad who has just been re-elected as President on the 3th of June 2014. After this political disaster, the United States began to apply the same tactics they had followed in Afghanistan during the Soviet occupation.

This tactic consisted of non-direct-intervention but instead providing modern and massive amounts of weapons,  intelligence and tactical support to local warlords and the Mujahedin. It took longer than expected but in the end the result was there. The Afghan government of Najibullah was overthrown and replaced by a regime comprising these warlords and Mujahedin. The country was in total disarray and its social fabric and infrastructure broken but this was not of concern to the U.S. government. But what the U.S. underestimated was that out of the chaos and violence an Islamic group of extremist and deviated nature, the Taliban, would emerge eventually grabbing power and giving shelter to al-Qaeda and its leader Osama bin Laden leading up to the nine eleven (2001) attacks on the twin towers in New York.

Not learning of these historical mistakes the United States is now applying the same tactics and making the same mistakes in Syria and Iraq. For almost four years the United States have been providing terrorist groups in Syria with weapons worth hundreds of millions of dollars, training facilities in neighbouring countries like Jordan and logistical support through Turkey, Jordan and Israel (through the occupied Golan lands). It has herby closely been cooperating with Qatar and especially Saudi Arabia who has been  paying the bills of these terrorists throughout the conflict. The direct and close involvement of these two countries clearly indicates the ideological nature of the terrorist groups operating in Syria and now in Iraq. A Wahhabi intolerant form of Islamism deviating from the tolerant respectable religion Islam is as practised in Syria, Iraq and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Concerning the United States, they are trapped in the Afghan scenario where and when they made an artificial division of so called moderates (the Mujahedin) and extremists (the Taliban).

Also in Syria the U.S. maintains that they are only supporting the moderates operating under the umbrella of the so called Free Syrian Army. But in reality the Free Syrian Army consists of only a few percentages of the terrorist groups operating in Syria and has long been neutralised by the Syrian Arab Army. And in the very few regions the Free Syrian Army was still present they have been decapitated by the extremist groups of mostly the “al-Nusra front” and “ISIS / Islamic State”. As a matter of fact there has never been a division between moderates and extremists as the Free Syrian Army is nothing more than another terrorist group and not a tolerant opposition group as depicted in Western media and by the United States.

Furthermore the close cooperation between the United States on the one side and Saudi Arabia and Qatar on  the other side is a display of utmost hypocrisy when the United States is talking about only supporting the so called moderate groups.

What the United States didn’t foresee and what took them by surprise was that in Afghanistan the Mujahedin administration who fought the Soviets was overthrown in a blitz-offensive by the Taliban and the situation spun out of control. Now in Iraq too “ISIS / Islamic State”, who has been an ally in combatting the Syrian government opened a blitz-offensive in Iraq creating panic with the United States. If, hypothetical, the “ISIS / Islamic State” succeeds in creating a caliphate the United States would unwillingly have been responsible for the creation of an entity similar as Afghanistan under the Taliban.

conclusion :

The focus of the United States has been to weaken and divide the whole region of the Middle East to control the oil and gas resources according to the Project of the New Middle East and in the same time breaking up the axis of resistance starting in Tehran and ending up with Hezbollah passing through Baghdad and Damascus. But by implementing reckless policies and marrying Qatar and Saudi Arabia in this adventure the United States is risking to create a second Afghanistan based on the Taliban model which will return to it as a boomerang as happened on nine eleven.
