The United Nations urges Libyan parties to completely cease all military maneuvers and reinforcements in the country

The United Nations has urged all parties in Libya to completely cease all military maneuvers and reinforcements in order to reach an agreement for a permanent ceasefire in the country.

Al-Wasat Gate website quoted the United Nations Support Mission in Libya as saying in a statement on Saturday night that “the United Nations urges a complete cessation of all military maneuvers and reinforcements in order to to  reach a permanent ceasefire agreement as well as provide an appropriate space for constructive political discussions,” announcing the resumption of talks between the Libyan parties via video call in Tunisia early next month.

According to the statement, the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum aims at achieving a unified vision about the power framework and arrangements that will lead to the holding of national elections in the shortest possible time in order to restore the sovereignty of Libya and the democratic legitimacy of the Libyan institutions, pointing out that the participants in the forum will be selected from the various components of the Libyan people.

The mission stipulated that those invited to participate in the forum refrain from assuming any political or sovereign positions in any new arrangement for the executive authority.

Since the NATO aggression against it in 2011, Libya has been suffering from chaos and insecurity in light of the proliferation of weapons and terrorist organizations that are trying to impose their influence and control over various cities and regions, especially in the capital, Tripoli, where the militias of the Government of National Accord supported by the Turkish regime are spread.
