The United Nations predicts that the world population will reach 8 billion

New York (ST): The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs expected today that the world’s population will reach eight billion people by the 15th of next November, with India likely to replace China and become the most populous country in 2023.

AFP quoted United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres as saying in a statement: “The projection of a world population of eight billion is an occasion to recall our shared responsibility to take care of the planet and a moment to reflect on our obligations to each other that we still do not respect. An occasion to celebrate our diversity, to recognize our common humanity, and to express our admiration for progress in health that has extended lifespans and dramatically reduced maternal and child mortality.”

According to the UN administration, the world population will grow at a slower pace and may reach only about 8.5 billion people in 2030 and 9.7 billion in 2050, with an expected peak of about 10.4 billion people in 2080 and to remain at this level until the year 2100.
