The United Nations and Russia Condemn the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stressed that the targeting of UNIFIL forces by the Israeli entity in southern Lebanon constitutes a flagrant violation of humanitarian and international law.
“We condemn the shooting at UN positions, which resulted in the injury of a number of peacekeepers, which is a violation of international humanitarian law,” Guterres was quoted as saying by AFP after talks with Southeast Asian leaders during a summit in Laos.
“Of course, there was a reaction from many parties in solidarity with the peacekeepers who were injured by informing Israel very clearly that this is unacceptable and should not be repeated, “Guterres said.
For its part, Russia expressed its displeasure and anger at the targeting of UNIFIL forces by the Israeli enemy, and the Foreign Ministry said in a statement: “Moscow is outraged by the actions of the Israeli army, and demands it to refrain from any hostile actions against the peacekeeping forces carrying out their mission in Lebanon in accordance with the current mandate of the UN Security Council.
The permanent representative of Russia to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, pointed out today that the Israeli bombing that targeted “UNIFIL” is a war crime that deserves a decisive reaction, expressing Moscow’s full support for the forces of the World Organization and the need to preserve the safety of its personnel.
