The two young women, Sarah and Yara Al-Abbas, establish a project to sell roses and ornamental plants

Syrian youth choose their investment projects according to their limited material capabilities and scientific competencies, with the aim of ensuring their success, continuity, and development in the future.

The two young women, Sarah and Yara Al-Abbas, chose their project to grow roses and ornamental plants, as it does not require a large capital and is fully consistent with the undergraduate study of the young Sarah as a student in the Faculty of Agriculture at the university, where she started the project about a year ago, to be joined by her sister Yara, who is studying a master’s degree in the Faculty of Tourism at Al-Baath University. Yara’s passion for agricultural work and ornamental plants in general pushed her to this project with its renewed aesthetic details.

Sarah sought to employ her academic experience in this project, which she started by visiting a store that sells roses and ornamental plants, inquiring about the most  species. Last winter, she began planting some indoor salon roses and some shrubs such as dwarf lemon, in addition to purchasing some types of fertilizers and pesticides.

In order to market the products, a modest shop was rented in one of the branches of Al-Khudari Street in Al-Nuzha neighborhood in Homs, which witnesses an active commercial activity by the people of the city. The two young women explained that despite the difficult economic and living hardships, the trade of roses and ornamental plants receives interest and popularity among many.
