The third Syrian Book Fair for the year 2024 entitled “We Read to Rise” at the Assad National Library  kicked off in Damascus

Damascus(ST)-The third Syrian Book Fair for the year 2024, entitled “We Read to Rise,”  opened last night with the participation of 40 public and private publishing houses that presented nearly 10,000 new titles in various cultural, political, economic, intellectual and literary fields and for different age groups, at the Assad National Library in Damascus.

The exhibition, which will continue until the 19th of this month, is accompanied by a diverse cultural program of movie shows, musical concerts celebrating the ancient Syrian heritage, and literary and intellectual seminars with the participation of a group of Syrian intellectuals and creators.

The Minister of Culture Dr. Diala Barakat said In a statement to reporters:  that the opening of the book fair is a very important intellectual and cultural phenomenon and comes within the Ministry of Culture’s work plan that aims to enhance national thought and belonging by supporting publishing houses despite all circumstances, explaining that the pavilions  in the fair included important titles by Syrian and Arab writers.

According to the Minister of Culture the children have the biggest role, and she considered that children’s culture carries great importance in bringing them up in the right way and  connecting them  to their homeland, in addition to the importance of unifying terminology in the content of books directed at children and adults.

The Arab Writers Union in Syria is participating with a pavilion that includes a wide range of its various publications and a lecture by the head of the union, Dr. Muhammad Al-Hourani, entitled “Syria’s Great Role in Supporting the Resistance in Lebanon and Palestine.”
