The Syrians Start Voting for Their Representatives at the People’s Assembly

DAMASCUS, (ST)-  The Syrians today morning started to vote in the country’s People’s Assembly (PA) elections, hoping that their representatives will embody their aspirations in drawing up a new future for Syria.

Polling Centers in all the Syrian provinces have opened for voting in the country’s parliamentary elections. More than 3000 candidates from all Syrian provinces  are running for 250 seats in the Syrian Parliament. The early hours of the electoral process witnessed heavy turnout by voters from all categories of the Syrian society.

The democratic electoral process is being carried out in accordance with the Syrian state’s constitution and as an embodiment of the country’s sovereignty.

It is being held amid the ongoing terrorist war on Syria to stress the Syrians’ steadfastness, national stances and their strong determination to challenge the war circumstances and send a message to the entire world that the Syrian people are loyal to their homeland and adherent to their state’s sovereign independent decision.

Some 7000 polling centers across the country opened at 7:00 a.m. local time. They are to be close at 7:00 p.m., but if the turnout is heavy the Higher Judicial Committee for Elections (HJCE) has the right to extend the electoral process five more hours.

Hisham Shaar, the HJCE Chairman, stressed keenness on a transparent and honest electoral process that helps voters cast their ballots easily.

Polling centers are open in all Syrian provinces except Idlib and Raqqa where Daesh and Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organizations have control.

President Bashar Al-Assad on February 22nd issued Decree No. 63 for 2016 calling for holding parliamentary elections in the country on April 13.
