This morning, the work of the fourth Syrian-Russian joint meeting began in Damascus to follow up on the international conference on the return of Syrian refugees and displaced persons.
The halls of the Umayyad Palace of Conferences in Damascus witnessed a number of sessions that brought together representatives of the relevant ministries and institutions from the Syrian and Russian sides, during which the two sides’ officials discussed topics on media, economy, endowments, higher education, justice, interior, culture, trade, agriculture, transport and industry.
On the media side, which brought together the Syrian Ministry of Information and representatives of the Ministry of Digital Development and Communication and the media of the Russian Federation, Deputy Minister of Information Ahmed Dhawa indicated in a statement to reporters that ways to enhance cooperation in the technical field and media training were discussed, pointing out that the coming days will witness good cooperation between the two sides in In the fields of media, printing and photography, and that work is also underway to complete an agreement prepared in advance that guarantees a legal and legislative cover for this cooperation, which is aspired to be at the level of political relations.
Dhawa explained that with regard to the return of refugees, Syria has taken many measures and issued amnesty decrees in order to provide the displaced with a safe return, but there are political agendas that stand in the way of achieving this.
The Director of Digital Development at the Ministry of Communication and the Russian media, Larina Ekaterina, expressed her hope to reach important results of work to deepen relations in the media and technical field between the two countries.
It is noteworthy that the work of the three-day meeting includes a joint session of the Syrian and Russian coordination ministerial bodies, in the presence of representatives of the United Nations, the International Committee of the Red Cross and other humanitarian organizations, at the Umayyad Palace of Conferences.
The work of the meeting also includes joint meetings from the two sides in various governorates within the sectors of economy, trade, higher education, media, education, health, communications, justice, culture, local administration, environment, energy, agriculture, agrarian reform, transport and industry, in addition to the activities of distributing humanitarian aid and textbooks in several regions.
The international conference on the return of Syrian refugees was held in November of the year 2020, where its final statement affirmed Syria’s readiness to return its citizens to the homeland and to continue efforts to provide them with decent living conditions, and called on the international community to provide appropriate support to refugees and increase its contribution and support to Syria through the implementation of related to reconstruction, health and medical care, social services, and demining.
