The Syrian Female Oriental Band launches the “Long Live Music” festival at Al-Azem Palace in Damascus
In conjunction with the world celebrations of the International Music Day , the Syrian Female Oriental Band launched “ Long Live Music” festival at the unique historical monument Al-Azem Palace in old Damascus.
Marking this occasion a number of festivals are held on the 21st of June every year in more than 123 countries around the world.
The Damascene musical evening revived a group of traditional songs, in which singers Ahlam Deeb and Rayan Jarira participated with the female oriental band’s female musicians including the Zither player Dima Mawazini , the oud player Heba Odeh, the violinist Razan Qassar, the double bass player Laila Saleh, and Mervat Rafie who is the tambourine player as well as Rama Al-Barsha the viola player .
The evening musical program was distinguished by its diversity between playing musical pieces and lyrics.
The Syrian female Oriental Band was formed on the ninth of April 2003 by a group of female academic musicians, graduates and students of the Higher Institute of Music.
The band, which seeks to revive the Syrian and Arab musical heritage, held various concerts on the main Syrian stages including “ the Opera House”, Al-Assad Library and the Conference Palace . It also represented Syria in many Arab and foreign musical conferences , festivals and the Syrian cultural weeks in Holland, Greece, China, Germany, UAE, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Bahrain, Iraq and Oman.
