The Syrian delegation to the 22nd International Meeting in the Astana Format meets with the Russian and Iranian delegations

Astanan (ST) – The delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic to the 22nd International Meeting on Syria in the Astana Format, headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Raad, met with the delegation of the Russian Federation headed by the Special Envoy of the Russian President to Syria Alexander Lavrentiev.

The Syrian delegation also met with the delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran headed by Senior Advisor to the Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Asghar Khaji.

During the two meetings, the agenda of the international meeting was discussed as well as joint efforts to combat terrorism, views were exchanged and coordination was made on various issues related to the Astana track.

The Syrian delegation stressed the seriousness of the repeated Israeli attacks on Syrian territory, in addition to its ongoing aggression against the Palestinians and the Lebanese, and the catastrophic effects of this aggression on the region.

In turn, the Russian and Iranian delegations praised the efforts made by the Syrian government, which were evident in receiving arrivals from Lebanon, stressing the continued support for Syria in preserving its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the Syrian delegation met with the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Syria, Geir Pedersen, where they discussed issues related to the mandate entrusted to him.

In addition to the Syrian delegation, the delegations of the guarantor states “Russia, Turkey and Iran” are participating in the two-day meeting, in addition to delegates from the United Nations, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq as observers.
