The Syrian and Russian coordinating bodies: America’s looting of Syrians’ oil is the reason for Syria’s difficult humanitarian situation
On August 20th, the Syrian and Russian ministerial coordinating commissions on the return of the displaced Syrians affirmed that the continued looting of Syrian oil by the United States of America is the reason for the difficult humanitarian situation that the Syrian people are suffering from.
In a joint statement, the two commissions called on the international community, especially the countries neighboring Syria, to take strict measures to stop smuggling the wealth of the Syrian people out of the country.
The two commissions called for activating the role of United Nations institutions in providing additional initiatives to expand their humanitarian activities in Syria and implement projects related to early reconstruction, as stipulated in UN Security Council Resolution No. 2642.
The two commissions stressed the importance of working in this context towards lifting sanctions first on those institutions that contribute to the reconstruction of facilities concerned with providing water, electricity, hospitals, bakeries, housing and other infrastructure facilities.
In their statement, the two commissions said: Russia and Syria strongly condemn the occupation of Syrian lands and the plundering of the Syrian people’s wealth by the occupying forces. According to the data issued by the Syrian Ministry of Oil and Mineral Resources, the United States of America and its allies loot daily about 66,000 barrels of extracted oil.”
The two commissions added: Washington’s looting of Syrian oil has reached its limits, and this is the reason for the continuing difficult humanitarian situation, as millions of Syrians suffer from lack of energy, food, water and other necessary materials.
The two commissions indicated that they are continuing their work aimed at assisting Syrian citizens in the safe voluntary return and in building and reconstructing the country, and that, with joint efforts, so far, 2406840 Syrian citizens have returned to their places of permanent residence.
The two commissions said: After the victory of the Syrian people with the support of Russia and other allies over the terrorist groups, the Syrian leadership is making maximum efforts to rebuild the country and improve the living conditions of the population.
The two commissions clarified that many achievements have been made thanks to the measures taken in these directions and Syria is witnessing today a wide movement of reconstruction work, as more than 22,421 public facilities have been invested since 2018, and work is underway in 4,102 construction sites.
The two commissions indicated that obstacles are being put in the way of the great efforts made by the Syrian leadership to return citizens to their normal life by the United States of America and its allies through their continuation of the policy of sanctions that are applied in contravention of the Charter of the United Nations.
The two commissions stressed that the coalition led by the United States of America is stealing the Syrians wealth and impeding their return to an adequate standard of living.
