Iraqi governmental, parliamentary and popular figures as well as ambassadors of Arab and foreign countries have offered condolences over the victims of the earthquake disaster in Syria. They flocked to the condolence center that was set up by the Syrian embassy in Baghdad.
Ambassador Sattam Jad’an Al-Dandah received condolences from former Iraqi Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jubouri, the ambassadors of Iran, Russia, Palestine, Yemen, the UAE, Bahrain, Venezuela, Greece, and the representative of the Lebanese Embassy in Baghdad.
They affirmed the solidarity of their countries with Syria, and their support to help the country overcom the ordeal it is passing through, offering their sympathy to the families of the victims, and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.
In a statement to SANA correspondent in Baghdad, al-Jubouri affirmed his country’s support for Syria in this ordeal by providing relief convoys to the affected people, pointing out that the Iraqis remember the honorable Syrian positions towards them. He called for breaking the unjust siege imposed on the Syrian people and for sending humanitarian aid to those affected by the earthquake.
For his part, the Palestinian ambassador expressed his confidence that Syria, as people and leadership, is able to overcome this ordeal.
Russian Ambassador Elibros Kotrashev said that Russia provided immediate aid to Syria as an expression of its support for the Syrians in this ordeal.
Iranian Ambassador Muhammad Kazem Al Sadiq said: “Iran will always support and assist the brotherly country of Syria”.
Dr. Wissam Kalakish, Chargé d’Affairs of the Lebanese Embassy, offered his deepest condolences over the earthquake victims, noting the deep historical ties between the two brotherly peoples of Syria and Lebanon.
