The Syrian delegation meets with the delegations of Russia and Iran within the framework of the 20th international Astana meeting on Syria
On Tuesday, during the 20th international Astana meeting on Syria, the delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic, led by Dr. Ayman Soussan, Assistant Minister of the Foreign Affairs and Expatriates met with the Russian delegation led by Mikhail Bogdanov, Deputy Foreign Minister, and Special Representative of the Russian President for Middle East affairs. Then the delegation met with the Iranian delegation led by Ali Asghar Khaji, Senior Assistant to the Iranian Foreign Minister for Political Affairs.
During the two meetings, the discussions revolved around the agenda of the conference, and the views were identical on various related issues.
They also discussed issues related to the quadripartite meeting at the level of the deputy foreign ministers of the Syrian Arab Republic, the Russian Federation, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the Turkish Republic.
In this context, Soussan stressed that the Turkish forces withdrawal from the Syrian territories constitutes the only starting point to any normal relations between the two countries, or to any cooperation in any field, stressing that combating terrorism is not selective, and that ensuring border security is a shared responsibility of neighboring countries.
Bogdanov and Khaji reiterated their countries’ support for Syria in preserving its sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, and not interfering in its internal affairs.
It was also agreed to continue consultations and cooperation between Syria, Russia, and Iran, on various related aspects to enhance common vision in line with current developments.
