The Syrian-Chinese Business Council discusses enhancing cooperation in various fields

Damascus countryside (ST): The General Authority of the Syrian-Chinese Business Council discussed, during its meeting in Yafour resort in the countryside of Damascus, ways to develop economic cooperation between Syria and China, and to strengthen the role of the Business Council in this context, to expand the horizons of cooperation between the two countries, to include various fields.

In a speech, the head of the council, Eng. Muhammad Hamsho, stressed the continuation of the Syrian business sector in developing the national economy and strengthening cooperation between Syria and China, as China is the most important economic and commercial partner for Syria.

Hamsho underlined the importance of reactivating the credit line from the Chinese side towards Syria, as it will contribute to achieving a major shift and developing trade and economic relations, referring to the efforts of the Chinese embassy in this field.

 

For his part, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Syria Shi Hongwei commended the deep historical friendship between the two countries and the practical cooperation in various fields, and the sustainable development of bilateral exchanges, in order to consolidate the mutual political trust between Syria and China, which is always keen to provide various assistance to Syria and its people to contribute to the reconstruction of the Syrian economy.

Ambassador Hongwei pointed out that economic and trade cooperation is an important part of the relationship between the two countries and said: Despite the serious impact of the illegitimate unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States of America and the West on Syria, thanks to joint efforts, economic and trade cooperation between China and Syria has achieved positive results in the last few years.

For his part, Director of International Economic Cooperation at the Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade and representative of the Ministry, Dr. Anas Al-Bikai, presented a set of proposals that would contribute to strengthening cooperation between the two countries, including revitalizing maritime and air transport, inviting the Chinese side to operate flights between Beijing and Damascus, and enhancing cooperation on the financial level, and the possibility of adopting the mechanism of trade exchange in local currencies by the banks operating in the two countries, in order to solve the problem of financial transfers between the two sides.
