The Suez Canal Authority expects 140 ships to cross the Canal with the resumption of navigation

Cairo (ST): The Suez Canal Authority expected the passage of 140 ships today after the floatation of a container ship that ran aground in the Canal for nearly a week .However, experts warned that removing the effects of the disruption of global shipping and ports could take months.

Reuters quoted Osama Rabi’, head of the Suez Canal Authority, as saying that about 140 ships will cross today  and expressed his hope that the passage of ships disrupted by the crisis will be completed within three to four days.

Some experts indicated that removing the effects on global shipping and ports could take longer. Jan Hoffmann, an expert in logistics at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, said in a press briefing that although congestion at the entrance of the Canal and its shipping course could end within four or five days, the end of congestion in the ports may take several months.
