The Short Syrian Film (About Her) Wins First Prize at Rafidain International Film Festival

The Short Syrian feature film (About her), directed by Rabab Merhej and produced by the General Film Organization, won the first prize at the second session of the Al-Rafidain International Film Festival (Artist Sana Abdel-Rahman’s session), which was recently launched in Baghdad under the slogan (Cinema is the Language of Life).

623 films from 20 countries participated in the festival, 69 of which were selected by the International Screening and Viewing Committee composed of filmmakers from Syria, Morocco and Iraq.

In a metaphor for the homeland, the film addresses the story of a woman who has long suffered from life and from her surroundings in the form of monologues, battling her circumstances and seeking rebellion and rejection. It  embodies the story of a well-known and successful actress married to a poet who betrays and hurts her, thereby causing her to suffer a stroke that induces her into a coma and dies, but the husband continues his life without changing his behavior.

The film ; starrs Milad Youssef, Robin Issa, Karam Sha ‘rani, Fayez Qazaq, Najat Mohammed, Salma Suleiman, Mohammed Wahid Qazaq and Fadel Wafai. The Production Director is Mughaith Dib, Photography and Lighting Director, Mohamed Matar, Executive Director, Rawad Shaheen and Assistant Director Abdul Latif Kannan, and others.

It is worth mentioning that the film won three awards last year, namely; Special mention at the fifth session of Aswan Women’s Film Festival, the award for best directing at the fourth session of the Al-Dashira International Film Festival for short films, as well as the Special Jury Award at the Café Cinema Festival in Morocco.
