The Russian Foreign Ministry summons the US ambassador to Moscow and expels two employees of US embassy

The Russian Foreign Ministry summoned the US ambassador to Moscow and declared two US embassy employees persona non grata.

Novosti quoted the Ministry as saying in a statement: The US Ambassador to Moscow, Lynn Tracy, was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry on the 14th of September by submitting an official memorandum to her regarding the incompatibility of the actions of the First Secretary of the US Embassy, J. Selin, and the Second Secretary of the Embassy, Dr. Bernstein with diplomatic status.

The Ministry indicated that the two aforementioned diplomats are non grata persons and must leave Russian territory within 7 days, indicating that these two diplomats were in contact with the American informant and former employee of the American Consulate, Robert Shonov, and they carried out illegal activities.

The Ministry stressed that Russia expects the United States to obtain correct conclusions after the expulsion of two of its diplomats and refrain from taking confrontational steps. The ministry pointed out that the illegal activities carried out by the US Embassy in Moscow are unacceptable and will be suppressed.
