The Russian Embassy in Washington: American statements regarding the elections are blatant interference in Russia’s affairs

Washington (ST): The Russian Embassy in the United States confirmed that Washington’s statements about the illegitimacy of the elections in the new Russian regions constitute blatant interference in the country’s internal affairs.

Sputnik quoted the embassy as saying in a statement today: “We are facing threats of another wave of sanctions, including against international observers who are expected to provide impartial conclusions about the nature of the electoral process.”

The embassy added: “The American authorities are not abandoning their long-standing habit of interfering in the internal affairs of other countries. They consider that they have the right to provide recommendations and warnings regarding the conduct of electoral campaigns abroad.”

The embassy pointed out that “Washington is mistaken in believing that it can intimidate us,” explaining that “the residents of the Donetsk and Lughansk People’s Republics and the Kherson and Zaporozhye provinces made their legal choice in the referendums.”
