The restoration of the Archaeological Arch of Triumph in Palmyra is underway

Homs (ST): The work of the first part of the second phase, which relates to the restoration of the archaeological Arch of Triumph, destroyed by the terrorist organization (ISIS) in 2015, has ended in the historic city of Palmyra.

This major archaeological project is being implemented in two phases in cooperation between the General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums of the Ministry of Culture , the Syrian Trust for Development, and the Antiquities Rescue Center of the Institute for the History of Material Culture of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The head of the Department of Classical Antiquities in the General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums, the field supervisor of the work, Haider Youssef, explained in a statement to news reporter that the first part of the second phase, which lasted for about a month, included drilling in the vicinity of the bases of the arch columns to discover the structural condition of the foundations and ensure their safety, in addition to revealing the historical sequence of the archaeological layers at the site.

Haidar stressed that the required restoration work is proceeding with high professional experience, and great accuracy through the use of modern techniques in the work.
