The project includes assessments and a comprehensive survey of the river’s situation, and proposed integrated solutions to the problems it suffers from starting from the source to downstream, in all planning, environmental, historical, tourism and cultural aspects, as well as with regard to infrastructure.

In a statement, the project manager Ghada Bilal deputy dean of the Higher Institute for Regional Planning, stated that the project won first place among 42 projects that also won funding from the competition, to which more than 280 research projects were submitted from different countries of the world.

Bilal explained that the University of La Sapienza will establish a laboratory for the Barada project similar to the laboratory in the Higher Institute of Regional Planning at the University of Damascus, and its supervision will be joint between the two universities in order to qualify and train postgraduate students from Syria and other countries.
