The People’s Assembly participates in the 146th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Bahrain

A delegation from the People’s Assembly (Parliament) participated in the 146th session of the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and related meetings, which began on the 11th of March in the Bahraini capital, Manama, and will continue until March 15th.

The delegation headed by Maisa Saleh, Secretary of the People’s Assembly.

The work of the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union is held under the slogan “Promoting peaceful coexistence and inclusive societies for all and combating intolerance.”

The program includes several meetings of the Assembly, the Union’s Governing Council and the Standing Committees, in addition to workshops and events accompanying this session.

During the coordination meetings of the parliamentary groups participating in the union, the head and members of the delegation of the Syrian People’s Assembly stressed the need to unite efforts by Arab, Asian and Islamic parliamentary federations and councils to defend issues of common concern.

The delegation also participated in the meetings of the Bureau and the Forum of Women Parliamentarians in the Inter-Parliamentary Union, during which the delegation made an intervention on the topics on the agenda.

In addition to Saleh, the delegation includes members of the People’s Assembly, Muhammad Munaf al-Akkad, Nidal Ammar and Ruba Mirza.

It is noteworthy that the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is an international organization with a pivotal goal to promote and protect global democracy.

The union consists of 178 member parliaments and 14 associate members.
